Now and then life takes us to hard places bringing traumatic events, personal or family crisis, a breakdown in a relationship, the end of one thing and no sense of how we will get through the day, let alone get going again. Maybe you are experiencing very painful, confusing and difficult emotions right now, or just feeling numbed and lifeless. Maybe you have responsibilities at work or in the family that are hard to hold with no sense of support. Or maybe you don’t know what you feel, just a bit low, have no sense of self-value or purpose in life and just want to talk about it. You may have complex reasons for coming or just a simple issue that you need to talk about.
Whatever the issue you bring, talking to an experienced counsellor in a safe, confidential way, can bring great relief. It can help you to feel less burdened and lighter in yourself. Through therapeutic work, you can be helped to release emotions held in the body, prevent illness and bring a new zest for life.
What is Psychosynthesis Counselling?
Psychosynthesis counselling is a person-centred, integrative therapy. It can be as long or short-term as you need. As you take the time and space to look at your issues, the counsellor witnesses your journey, reflects and offers ways of working which may be useful for you.
Psychosynthesis works with the different sub-personalities we hold – our intra-psychic splits – and where they resource us or are in conflict, affecting our energy. Using body/breathing mindfulness, guided visualization and imagery, physical movement, body focusing and dialoguing, where appropriate, we get to know these parts gently integrating them.
Looking close-up at the detail of your everyday life and widening the lens to view yourself in relation to others and the world you live in, helps you to see where you are and where you want to be at this stage in your life. Slowly and gently, and in a very practical way, psychosynthesis counselling helps you to come to feel at home in yourself, to accept and see who you truly are, and may be.
The founder of Psychosynthesis, Roberto Assagioli, first called it Bio-psychosynthesis – a bit of a mouthful! However, for me this is exactly how I work with a person’s deep impulse to be healthy and whole, helping them integrate the parts of themselves in a holistic way.
